The first Remick recorded in America was Christian Remic(h) who was mentioned in records of Kittery, Maine in 1651. No account has been found to indicate whether Christian was indeed an immigrant, and if so, where he came from. It IS apparent from records that Christian was born about 1631, and was still living in 1718. He married Hannah _____ , and they had four sons and five daughters. It is from these four sons-- Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, and Joshua-- that most of the Remicks in the US today are descended. The daughters married Gowell, Dixon, Green, Wixham, and Cole, and produced a wealth of additional descendants

Remick appeared in the 1964 musical Anyone Can Whistle, written by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents; the highly unconventional show ran for only a week, although Remick's performance is captured on the popular original cast recording. This began a lifelong friendship between Remick and Sondheim, and she later appeared in the landmark 1985 concert version of his musical Follies. Remick received a Tony Award nomination in 1966 for her role as a blind woman terrorized by drug smugglers in the hit play Wait Until Dark (the character was played by Audrey Hepburn in the film version).

In 1989, Lee Remick was making a film in France when she fell ill. Upon examination, they found tumors on her kidneys and lungs. She spent a year and a half fighting the disease, and reached a point where she really thought she had licked it. She called her battle with cancer "drastic and horrible and successful," after she was treated at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland.

"The casting of Remick was Preminger's major concern after Lana Turner left the project (the actress reportedly slapped the director who slapped her back) and Jayne Mansfield backed off from the script. Joseph Welch, who plays the judge, was the famed Army-McCarthy hearings lawyer who would go on to become a real life judge. Even today, when these issues seem tame, the long drama crackles along."
