Latin America: Latin American
built 622 days ago
A terrain map of Latin America The population of Latin America is an amalgam of ancestries and ethnic groups. The racial and ethnic composition varies from country to country. This makes the region one of the most diverse in the world. Some have a predominance of a mixed population, some have a high percentage of people of Amerindian origin, some are dominated by inhabitants of European origin and some populations are primarily of African origin. Most or all Latin American countries have Asian minorities.

An emphasis on educating the public about the environment and environmental justice in Latin America is at the center of this festival. In an effort to promote an educational component to this event, two films will be showcased in a curriculum project underwritten by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies with funds from the U.S. Department of Education. This project will involve a select group of K12 teachers and curriculum specialists developing units for use in the middle and high school classroom. The intent of this project is to make these units available for distribution with the film. The filmmakers need not make any commitment in regards to the development of these supplemental materials.
All other Latin American countries (except Uruguay/Paraguay) have significant TEFL job markets, although conditions vary enormously from country to country and school to school. Most jobs can be arranged in advance, but teachers usually pay their own airfare. Salaries allow a comfortable lifestyle but rarely allow significant savings. Because of recent economic problems in Brazil and Argentina, most teachers currently go to Chile, Colombia and Peru.
In Latin America the economic crisis often resulted in complete systems and economies collapsing due to market bubbles bursting in the Developed world. While the US dollar is down against many currencies, it ... allows for US made good to become more attractive to local consumers and leaves foreign imports at a competitive disadvantage. There is also the fact that many trading partners of the US kept their currencies artificially low in order to sell more to the US. The current accusation is that China is currently doing this, and not more than three years ago it was known that Canada’s 64 cents US to one Canadian dollar was so low to help exporters to the US even though the value was likely 74 cents at the time. While Latin American countries such as Mexico, Chile and Brazil are now seen as surviving the current global economic storm, the US will also do so as they all currently have decent regulations and good economic fundamentals.
Many Latin Americans are of European descent. Latin American countries attracted European immigrants to work in agriculture, commerce and industry. Many Latin American governments encouraged immigrants from Europe to civilize the region.[8] Despite their different origins, these immigrants integrated in the local societies and most of their descendants only speak Spanish or, in Brazil, Portuguese. For example, people of Italian descent make up half of Argentina's and Uruguay's population, but only a few of them are able to speak Italian. The only notable exceptions are some communities of Germans and Italians across Southern Brazil who still preserve their languages. Brazil has the biggest population of Italians outside of Italy; São Paulo city alone has more Italians than Rome.[9]
Arguably, the main contribution to music entered through folklore, where the true soul of the Latin American and Caribbean countries is expressed. Musicians such as Yma Súmac, Chabuca Granda, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Mercedes Sosa, Jorge Negrete, Luiz Gonzaga, Caetano Veloso, and others gave magnificent examples of the heights that this soul can reach.
