But dicey times lie ahead, including much slower economic growth for Brazil, for example, than it should be enjoying. Rising inflationary pressures block implementation of counter-cyclical monetary policy to energize domestic demand. A regional current account deficit is predicted to emerge after five years of surpluses. The weak dollar adds further confusion.
Latin America is becoming an increasingly important market in the enterprise telephony space. According to a 2006 report from analyst firm IDC, the IP communications market in Latin America was expected to grow by 37% in 2006, mainly boosted by migration to pure IP-PBX systems and IP telephones. Finance, telecommunications, commerce and government have all shown high levels of IP adoption.
