Last Days: Characters
built 155 days ago
Last Days ... features two original compositions by lead actor Michael Pitt, an acoustic song entitled "Death to Birth", an electric jam called "That Day", as well as another piece, "Untitled", by fellow actor Lukas Haas. The character of Scott listens to "Venus in Furs" by the Velvet Underground in the living room scene. Blake, in one lengthy sequence, absently watches a music video for the song, "On Bended Knee" by the band Boyz II Men on a television. Incidentally the Velvet Underground's "Venus In Furs" features a lyric that refers to the line, "On Bended Knee". Pitt's character is also shown writing with his left hand but playing guitar right-handed, in contrast to Cobain's left-handed guitar playing.
LAST DAYS OF THE SAN JOSE is a documentary about the San Jose Motel, a notoriously seedy joint on S. Congress Ave. in Austin, which Liz Lambert bought with the idea of tearing it down to build a cool boutique hotel. But it took her two years to get a bank to loan her the money, and in the meantime she decided to manage the old motel in order to make ends meet. She used a digital video camera to document many of the colorful characters and odd experiences she encountered during that time, which were cut into this documentary. If you have lived in Austin for many years, Last Days of the San Jose is a kind of loopy Valentine to the days when S. Congress was more disreputable, before anyone ever thought about using the abominably pretentious term “SoCo” to describe the area.

This is a powerful prophecy describing the complete breakdown of character in “the last days.” This time has come!—and these widespread conditions grow worse daily! Look around. People’s conduct is rapidly changing—seemingly always for the worse. More educators and others in authority are sounding the alarm that conditions have exploded out of control!
