Laser TV is a new visual technology using optoelectronics, which will be an improvement over current Plasma TV and LCD television displays. Their developers claim it will even make LCD and plasma screens obsolete. So if you have just decided what kind of HDTV to buy, here is something new to consider in your buying decision (although they are not due to be available to buyers until the end of 2007).

The introduction of Laser in this refractive procedure started with the developments in Laser technology by Rangaswamy Srinivasan. In 1980, Srinivasan, working at IBM Research Lab, discovered that an ultraviolet excimer laser could etch living tissue in a precise manner with no thermal damage to the surrounding area. He named the phenomenon Ablative Photodecomposition (APD).[2]. Dr. Stephen Trokel published a paper in the American Journal of Ophthalmology in 1983, outlining the potential of using the excimer laser in refractive surgeries.

Laser televisions are said to use just a fraction of the electricity, cost less money to produce and buy, and are only half the weight and depth of the present plasma TVs. Novalux chief executive, Jean-Michel Pelaprat, believes that plasma TV is now something of the past. But Samsung, who is one of the first scheduled to release a line of laser tvs next year along with Mitsubishi, stated that, "Laser TV is one of a number of competing, next-generation formats. At this stage, it is too early to say more."

A Laser's date and place of manufacture can be determined by looking at the serial number stamped into the transom or under the fairlead on the bow on older hulls. This serial number is unique to the boat and is ... the same number that is shown in the sail. The Laser is unusual in this aspect, since almost every other sailing craft has the numbers assigned by the national organization. This means that the same Laser can be moved between countries without having to change numbers. It also means that the Laser Standard has a six-figure number which reflects the large number of boats manufactured worldwide.

The Laser was launched to the public in 1971 at the New York Boat Show. It was designed by Bruce Kirby with simplicity and performance in mind, and quickly became the quintessential one-design. The Laser is sailed all over the world, and there have been over 160,000 Lasers built as of May, 1998. There are currently builders in Rhode Island, USA, England. At 13 feet 10.5 inches long with a 12.5 foot waterline and 76 square feet of sail, the Laser has enough power to glide in extremely light air and blast along in a stiff breeze.
