Lance Armstrong is one of the most celebrated athletes in the world, making history in 2005 by winning the prestigious Tour de France bicycle race for the seventh consecutive year. But he is more than just an amazing cyclist with phenomenal endurance; he is ... a survivor who has inspired millions of people around the world. In 1996, Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer, and with the same fierce focus he brings to competition he tackled his illness and won. Since then, Armstrong has become a leader in the cancer community through the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which focuses on educating the public about early cancer detection and raising money to find a cure for the disease that kills more than half a million people in the United States each year. As Bill Saporito commented in a 2004 Time article, "Given Armstrong's insane commitment to winning, cancer had better watch out."

SEPTEMBER 13--Lance Armstrong claims that an Oklahoma firm is ripping off his charitable foundation by selling dog and cat collars modeled after the cyclist's distinctive yellow "Livestrong" wristbands. In a federal lawsuit, Armstrong's charity contends that the sale of "Barkstrong" and "Purrstrong" collars infringes on its trademarked $1 bracelet, of which more than 70 million copies have been sold. An excerpt from the Armstrong complaint, which was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Austin, Texas, can be found below. The pet collars are peddled by Animal Charity Collar Group, a Tulsa for-profit operation that sells its tic and flea collar for $6.99, while a "support collar" costs $4.99. The "Barkstrong" and "Purrstrong" pet collars are pictured above. The Oklahoma firm began distributing the collars after a July 2005 marketing pitch to Armstrong foundation officials was rejected outright, the lawsuit charges.
lance armstrong The Lance Armstrong Foundation hopes to enhance the lives of cancer patients while funding and lobbying for further cancer research and, hopefully one day, a cure. They are there to offer hope and assurance at a time in your life when that is imperative to hold on to. Cancer affects all aspects of daily life. The foundation hopes to shed some light on the challenges that lie ahead and offer guidance and support while facing those challenges. They say knowledge is power and the foundation is there to offer that knowledge and power to those who need it most.
