The gaming and hotel holdings have since separated and Ladbrokes is now strictly in the gaming business. The company has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 1967.

According to these reports, Ladbrokes will strip out the major 888 Holdings assets, including the websites, customer databases, and other intellectual property. 888 would still remain in place as a company, presumably with some functions and legal responsibilities, though the major assets --- and the profits derived from them --- would transfer to Ladbrokes control. 888 Holdings boasts a strong presence in several markets where Ladbrokes itself is weak or nonexistent, the primary reason the deal was a natural fit. The details of the modified acquisition have not yet been made public, though the legal technicalities wrestled with by Ladbrokes' corporate counsel were reported to be the cause of the two months' delay from the time the pending deal was first reported.

Ladbrokes is currently based in the UK based and has been an established gambling company since 1886. However, gambling isn't the only industry you might have heard the name Ladbrokes mentioned in, until 2006 Ladbrokes ... owned the well known Hilton Hotel chain. Recently, in February 2006 The Hilton Group sold off their hotel division and renamed their business Ladbrokes, announcing it planned to concentrate on gambling opportunities.

Prior to June 2006 it was part of the FTSE 100 Index but after the sale of the hotel business (which included the Hilton hotel brand outside the United States) the smaller company was relegated to the FTSE 250, making it one of the 250 largest companies on the Exchange.
