From All Movie Guide: One of the most iconic action stars of all time, Kurt Russell is among the few to make the successful transition from child star to successful adult actor. As a youth, Russell aspired to follow the footsteps of his father, Bing Russell, who, in addition to being a big league baseball player, was ... an actor (he was perhaps best known for his role as the sheriff on the TV Western Bonanza). That his heroes Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris did the same thing only strengthened Russell's resolve to have both a baseball and acting career.

Butler, who is Scottish, would be stepping into the leather boots of what is arguably Russell's most famous character. But in the eye of the 40-year Hollywood veteran, movies like "Grindhouse" are showing that he's still a credible action star (see "Fergie Helping Tarantino, Rodriguez 'Grind' Out Horror Flick").

Russell put a prodigious amount of work into his role … watching videotapes reading articles and talking to such technical advisers as Larry Geller. Elvis former hairdressers Dave Presley his stepbrother and Charlie Hodge Elvis former rhythm guitarist who play himself in the movie. Russell was helped ... by the fact that many of his lines were taken verbatim from Presley interviews. But since these are matters of public record they offer a ghostly accuracy without any insight. Russell displays more of a hot-blooded quality in his love scenes with Season Hubley who plays Priscilla. This is due in part to the real-life romance they ignited on the set.

With the tone of the film secure, Russell could then develop his own character. Captain Stronghold is a loving homage to all the superheroes who have graced comic books, television and movies. Though he did not base Stronghold on anybody specifically, Russell acknowledges the similarities.
