Kryptonite: Powers
built 627 days ago
Green Kryptonite causes a quick loss of strength and eventual death for any Kryptonian. Green Kryptonite is the most common form of the substance. Green Kryptonite was thought to have no short-term effects on humans or non-super-powered Kryptonians, but was later found to cause cancer in long term exposure cases (Lex Luthor wore a ring containing a piece of Kryptonite to keep Superman at bay, but soon discovered the consequences).

After discovering that the villain Metallo was powered by a heart made of Kryptonite, Lex Luthor used a sample to fashion a Kryptonite ring for himself. He wore the ring at all times in an effort to keep Superman away from him. Continued exposure to the low level Kryptonite radiation proved harmful ... and Luthor developed cancer. To keep the cancer from spreading, his right hand was amputated and replaced with a cybernetic prosthetic. When Lex Luthor cloned himself a new body, the cybernetic appendage was no longer neccesary.

In the eighth episode of Smallville's 7th Season, entitled "Blue," there was a new form of Kryptonite. It was blue kryptonite, and it stripped Clark of his powers. This happened when Lara-El, Clark's mother, gave Clark his father's blue ring to wear, without knowing the affect it would have on him. The ring was impossible to remove until Clark returned to The Fortress of Solitude. As in the comics, blue kryptonite is fatal to Bizarro. It increases Bizarro's power exponentially so that his body is not able to contain it, causing him to explode.
