Korn: Jonathan Davis

With little publicity, radio play, or MTV exposure, Korn took their eponymous 1994 debut to platinum status. Like all unexpected successes, it's easier to understand its popularity in retrospect. Although they disdain the "metal" label, there's no question that Korn is among the vanguard of post-grunge alt-metal outfits. Borrowing from Jane's Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, Pantera, Helmet, Faith No More, Anthrax, Public Enemy and N.W.A, Korn developed a testosterone-fueled, ultra-aggressive metal-rap hybrid. They're relentless, both in their musical attack and in lead singer Jonathan Davis' bleak, violent lyrics. Tales of abuse and alienation run rampant throughout the record.
Korn teamed up with Robinson once again for their second album, Life Is Peachy, released on October 15, 1996. It presents a much grittier, stripped-down sound than its predecessor,[9] possibly due to time constraints. There were plenty of diverse songs on this record: "Porno Creep" features a wah-drenched pseudo-funk sound, similar to many 1970s porn movies. Korn ... recorded two covers, those being War's "Low Rider", with Davis' bagpipes and Head on vocals, and Ice Cube's "Wicked", with guest vocalist Chino Moreno of Deftones.

Prior to their next album, Korn released the single "Did My Time" on July 22, 2003,[30] which was used to promote the film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Angelina Jolie appeared in the Dave Meyers-directed video. Due to scheduling conflicts... the band and Jolie recorded their parts separately. "Did My Time" also gave Korn yet another Grammy nomination in the Best Metal Performance category.[8]
Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has reacted to recent coments made by Deftones singer Chino Moreno in US magazine Revolver. Moreno said: "As Korn go on, it’s the same things – bad childhoods and mean moms. It gets too old after a while. How old is Jonathan? Thirty? How long has it been since he lived with his parents?"

One thing Korn won't be doing... is recreating its acoustic "Freak on a Leash" duet with Evanescence's Amy Lee from "MTV Unplugged." "We feel like we did that. It was a special thing -- one time only," Davis said. "This time we're more into just rockin' like crazy."
