Korean War

Even after provoking the Korean War and wreaking fratricidal havoc on the nation, Pyongyang had not given up the policy of communizing the South by force of arms. The North has turned the whole country into a huge military barracks for use as the so-called "revolutionary base." After the division of the peninsula, North Korea used subversion and sabotage against South Korea as part of its effort to achieve reunification. North Korea was unsuccessful at developing a covert political infrastructure in South Korea or forging links with dissidents resident in South Korea, and after the early 1960s P'yongyang's efforts were unproductive.
Crossing the boarder between North and South Korea The Korean War(Korean:한국 전쟁 or 한국전쟁) was a war fought in Korea between armies from North Korea and from South Korea. The war began around June 25, 1950 and ended July 27, 1953. More than two million Koreans died, most of them in the north.
[A]s the Korean War bogged down into a stalemate, the regiment felt the full weight of the new "hold at all costs" strategy, losing many of its men in impossible missions. In October of 1952, several companies were sent to defend a barren outpost against overwhelming enemy fire. Following a massive mortar barrage, several dozen men abandoned their positions. Wrapped in mystery and controversy to this day, the real story of what happened has never been told until now.
Since 1990, more than 2,300 new homes have been built and sold in Cleveland's neighborhoods -- more than in any comparable period since the Korean War and nearly six times the number built during the entire decade of the 1980s. Cleveland's neighborhoods have the highest known amount of per capita private investment of any city in the country -- with more than $1.6 billion in formal neighborhood reinvestment agreements primarily from local financial institutions. Luxury homes are rising in once-blighted areas, and over 40 percent of urban homes are being purchased by suburbanites.

The dispute that rages between General Douglas MacArthur and the Truman administration over how to win the Korean war has reached fever heat again. The administration may shortly ask the general to clear with broad foreign policy issues.
It was 50 years ago next summer that an armistice was signed at Panmunjom, ending the Korean War and bringing an uneasy peace to the ravaged peninsula. But for the Korean people, peace is a relative term. A physical peace has for the most part been achieved. But a psychological peace is not yet part of the Korean existence. For the Korean War split a land and separated a people. And no armistice can remedy that ill.
