Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen is the third generation at the head of the LEGO Group. He was born with a deep love for LEGO products. While still a boy, he was a skilled modelmaker and a regular sparring partner in the design department when new models were tested. Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen took a B.Sc. degree in Economics and Business Administration at Århus School of Business Administration, and in 1972 gained an MBA degree at IMD in Switzerland. In 1973 he joined the family enterprise as co-director of the LEGO Company's technical R&D department and of its first foreign production plant in Switzerland.

The third generation of the LEGO Family and principal shareholder, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, has been named the 2008 Toy Industry Hall of Fame inductee. The announcement was made by Carter Keithley, president of TIA and sponsor of the event, and Alan Hassenfeld, Toy Industry Hall of Fame Committee Chairman.

On March 14th, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen - owner of LEGO - visited Center for Interactive Spaces. He was joined by Foundation manager, Morten Aagaard, Senior director, Electronics R&D, Erik Hansen, and LEGO Professor Mitch Resnick, from MIT MediaLab, USA. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the activities in the joint research project Nomadic Play. The project is developing mobile applications for children.

Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, president and CEO of LEGO A/S, receives the European Business Aviation Award for Operator of the Year in honor of his willingness to lend his name and image in support of business aviation as a business tool. In particular, he was the first European entrepreneur to promote business aviation by having his picture taken in front of his company aircraft and allowing that photo to be used in a business aviation brochure.

Kjeld married Camilla in 1974 and they have three children, Sofie (1975), Thomas (1979) and Agnetes (1982). In October 2004 Kjeld stepped down after 25 years as CEO and for only the second time in the company’s history, a non-family member, Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, was appointed to run the company.

The ceremony inducting Mr. Kristiansen will take place as part of the eighth annual T.O.T.Y. (Toy of the Year) Awards event, set for the evening of Saturday, February 16, 2008 in Manhattan at Chelsea Piers/Pier 60. Mr. Kristiansen will be on-hand to accept the award in person.
