Kismet Kismet's remarkable abilities are not without a price. Kismet senses the world through a microphone and four separate cameras. Ten computers process the incoming information. Twenty-one motors power Kismet's vocalizations, facial expressions, and head movements. Five additional computers control these motors. Every new level of complexity increases the load on Kismet's computers and causes slower responses from the robot.
Kismet is Directed by Yasamina, and is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt cultural organization registered in the state of Utah. Kismet has no other affiliation in Utah, and no longer produces the Meeting of the Tribes or the annual Utah Bellydance Festival. However, do look for Kismet performances at the Utah Arts Festival in Salt Lake City, and the Cedar City Renaissance Faire. Kismet has performed at both every year since each festival began, 3 decades ago.

Kismet puts your Wi-Fi card into "rf monitor" mode, which means you won't be able to connect to any access points until you reset the card. When you're done using the program, disconnect the Wi-Fi adapter and then restart the network. In SUSE, the command to do that is rcnetwork restart. Plug the adapter back in, and in a couple of seconds you should be ready to connect. You may have to set your card to the proper SSID, using a command such as iwconfig wlan1 essid "accesspointname".

Kismet detects the presence of wireless networks, including those with hidden SSIDs. It can discover and report the IP range used for a particular wireless network, as well as its signal and noise levels. Kismet can ... capture or “sniff” all network management data packets for an available wireless network. You can use Kismet to locate available wireless networks, troubleshoot wireless networks, optimize signal strength for access points and clients, and detect network intrusions.
