Keywords are the [N]ouns and noun phrases used by recruiters searching through applicant databases and Web job sites for resumes meeting the requirements on job descriptions. In case you've forgotten 8th great English class, nouns are the words that represent a person, place, or thing. ["Assistant" and "manager" are nouns. "Administrative assistant" and "marketing manager" are noun phrases.]

Keywords are indexing or cross-referencing terms which tag works in your datafile as containing material on a particular subject, or that you perhaps use in a course bibliography. You will be able to use Select to retrieve groups or subsets of records cross-referenced with the same keywords. (See the section on the Select feature for details on retrieving subsets of records with the same keywords.)

Keywords are used in a variety of ways throughout the site and play an important role in both the accuracy of search results as well as the ability of the system to pull together common elements from across the site. Appropriate use of these keywords will enhance the usability of the site and the "findability" of your information.

Good Keywords: Find the best keywords for your web pages. The Site Popularity Meter in Good Keywords is based on the Alexa (alexa.com) service. Alexa ranks web sites depending on the number of times Alexa users visit the site. While this is not exactly accurate it gives a good indication of how your site compares with that of your competitors. Since Alexa is a browser add-on toolbar for a Windows browser (IE), the Alexa statistics will not be accurate for sites that are normally visited by non IE surfers. Now that FireFox is becoming popular, the Alexa accuracy is likely to be affected even more.
