Kevin Spacey Biography Kevin Spacey's sexual orientation has been the subject of discussion in the media. In the run-up to the 1999 Academy Awards, Spacey gave an interview to Lesley Stahl for 60 Minutes on CBS in which he categorically refused to discuss his sexual orientation. Soon after winning the Academy Award for American Beauty, the tabloid The Star printed a collection of photos that allegedly proved Spacey's homosexuality. In January 2006 The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid newspaper, reported that a high school program dedicated to fighting homophobia listed Spacey among a list of famous homosexuals. The program's leader, Paul Patrick, apologized and called the listing a "mistake" and announced that Spacey's name would be edited out.

Kevin Spacey in his Oscar winning role as Lester Burnham in American Beauty. Kevin Spacey (born July 26, 1959) is an Academy award winning American actor (film and stage) and director. Spacey grew up in California, and began his career as a stage actor during the 1980s, before being cast in supporting roles in film and television. He gained critical acclaim in the early 1990s, culminating in his first Oscar for 1995's The Usual Suspects (Supporting), followed by a Best Actor Oscar win for 1999's American Beauty. Spacey has spent time working on stage productions in London, and has remained in the public eye, starring in several major Hollywood films, including Se7en, Pay It Forward, L.A. Confidential, and his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Superman Returns.
Kevin Spacey is having the time of his life these days, from his 10-year commitment as Artistic Director of London’s Old Vic, to playing one of the comic world’s most enduring bad guys, Lex Luthor, in the multi-million dollar Superman Returns. It’s quite the showy part for an actor who prides himself on his diversity, and Lex is as different from his recent Bobby Darren as you can get. The busy actor divides his time between the London theatre and movies, but for this Oscar winner, given the choice, there is no contest. Spacey talked to Paul Fischer in Los Angeles.

Kevin Spacey had a busy holiday season. Just as he was wrapping the HBO film Recount, about the ballot controversy in the 2000 presidential election, he received an unexpected call on behalf of Al Gore, asking him to step in as a host of the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway; Tommy Lee Jones had just backed out. Two days after the show, Spacey was in New York to raise funds for London’s eminent theater company the Old Vic, where he is artistic director, at a dinner at the Lowell. Among Spacey’s plans is a series of transatlantic productions with director Sam Mendes, which will be performed at the Old Vic and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Narrated by actor Kevin Spacey, this PBS documentary -- billed as an "intimate diary" -- chronicles the long and painstaking recovery, demolition, and stabilization activities on the site where the twin towers of the World Trade Center once stood. In the nine months following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, 2,300 workers labored night and day to clean and clear the area in the safest and most efficient manner possible. At the end of it all, the personnel pondered aloud what the next steps would be in restoring normalcy to the area. With more and greater access to Ground Zero than any other filmmakers, the producers of the special were able to come up with a story that was at once compelling, honest, utterly bereft of false sentiment, and chock full of basic, no-frills courage. America Rebuilds: A Year at Ground Zero was originally telecast during PBS's coverage of the first anniversary of 9/11. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
