Kenny Everett: Kenny Everett Video Cassette
built 210 days ago
What you get in Kenny Everett’s Complete Naughty Bits are the two compilations that were released on video many years ago. These consist of the best of Kenny’s Thames TV years – specifically The Kenny Everett Video Show & The Kenny Everett Video Cassette. Whilst his BBC Kenny Everett Television Show may be the most fondly remembered and had bigger production values, but many forget the steady decline his BBC show took (when the final series aired, it was truly a shadow of it’s former self). However, Kenny’s Thames were fresh and vibrant and had the ultimate seal of approval as far as knowing if material was funny – a crew that couldn‘t contain their mirth! A very recent interview with co-writer Barry Cryer revealed that such sounds of manly laughter from the crew was totally spontaneous, and no encouragement was employed to get them to do so. The true mark of a comedy talent.

Although pursuing essentially the same format, the final series - retitled The Kenny Everett Video Cassette - presented the Captain Kremmen stories in real life (first done in the 1980 New Years Eve special) with Anna Dawson appearing as Carla. This series ... introduced another new element: Star Quiz, whereby a horrible fate would befall a guest celebrity if he or she failed to answer a usually impossible question.

The original series, on ITV from 1978 to 1981, was called the Kenny Everett Video Show, with the final ITV series retitled the Kenny Everett Video Cassette. All of these series were produced by Thames Television, and there was no studio audience - the laughter was that of the writers, technicians and studio crew.
