Brook had a breakthrough into mainstream hostessing in January of 1999 when she was chosen to replace Denise van Outen as the female half of The Big Breakfast hosting team, alongside Johnny Vaughan. Brook's tenure was not a prolonged success. Some say she failed to recreate the on-screen "chemistry" that van Outen had achieved with Vaughan, while others commented she was perfect for the job, and that it was the time, in fact, for Vaughan to leave the show. Instead, she decided to leave the show in July, 1999.[2]

She failed to recreate the on-screen chemistry that van Outen had achieved with Vaughan, and ... appeared to have trouble with some of the technical aspects of live presentation: scriptwriters were requested to keep difficult words to a minimum when writing for her. She left the show in July, 1999.[2]
