If your child is diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, there is special treatment available. It is called immunoglobulin. This is a blood product made of concentrated antibodies from donated blood. It is given through a vein.
Kawasaki disease responds dramatically to therapy with intravenous gamma globulin (IVIG) and high-dose aspirin when caught in time. Recovery is usually complete. For this reason, making the correct diagnosis is very important.

There are many theories about why children get Kawasaki disease, but no one really knows the cause. Medical researchers have considered bacteria, viruses, and environmental chemicals or pollutants as possible causes, but none have proven to be a common link.

No one knows what causes Kawasaki disease, but it is thought to start from an infection or from exposure to some toxin. There is no firm evidence that the disease can spread from one person to another.
