Kawasaki Disease: Inflammation
built 627 days ago
Kawasaki disease is dangerous because up to 20% of children with the condition develop complications involving the heart, though very rarely including heart attack and sudden death. Complications include: abnormal widening (dilation) of the coronary arteries, aneurysm (a bulge in a blood vessel), pericarditis (inflammation of the sac around the heart muscle), myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle itself).

The main complication of Kawasaki disease is development and rupture of coronary artery aneurysms. These aneurysms may ... cause heart problems in later life. Other complications include dehydration and limited mobility from joint inflammation.
