Katie Leung is the young woman chosen to play Cho Chang, Harry Potter's love interest in the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Leung was born in Scotland to Chinese parents who had immigrated from Hong Kong, and was attending the upscale private school Hamilton College when she won the part in an open casting call. (Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling reportedly insisted that a complete unknown be cast as Cho Chang.) The casting generated intense interest among Harry Potter fans, since Cho Chang gives the boy wizard (played by Daniel Radcliffe) his first kiss in the book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Leung and Radcliffe did indeed smooch onscreen in the 2007 film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Actress Katie Leung had no intention of becoming an actress when she auditioned for the role of Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at an open casting call in her hometown of Glasgow, Scotland. In fact, the then-18-year-old had never even performed in a school play, but at her father's encouragement, she attended the audition and a few callbacks later, she was known to millions of Harry Potter fans as Cho. Born to Chinese immigrants, Leung is fluent in Cantonese. She attended high school at the prestigious Hamilton College in South Lanarkshire before being cast in Goblet of Fire. After Leung was chosen from among thousands of girls for the coveted role of Cho, she decided to see her acting ventures through to the end, signing on for the next movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and vowing to improve her craft and become as good an actress as possible. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

Katie Leung won the jackpot a few years ago. The actress, then 16, won the role of Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Cho, of course, caught the eye of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), but she was dating Cedric Diggory at the time. By the end of Goblet of Fire, Cedric had died, killed brutally by Lord Voldemort. Cho returns in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which opens nationwide on July 11. Though she’s still mourning the loss of Cedric, she begins a relationship with Harry that, for a while, is a relief from the stress of dealing with Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) and the tightening vice of Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher who’s actually answering to the increasingly paranoid Ministry of Magic.
