Kate Moss: Calvin Klein
built 231 days ago
Kate Moss was the star of a series of provocative Calvin Klein ads which began running in 1992. Her extra-slender figure and blank gaze became a fashion model trend, often called the "waif look" (and sometimes criticized by those who felt it promoted an unhealthy body image). Moss became one of the most popular models of the 1990s, appearing in hundreds of magazine spreads and in popular ads for Klein and Versace among others. She ... gained a reputation for a tempestuous personal life, culminating in her visit to a London rehabilitation clinic in 1998 and then a further brouhaha in 2005 when the Daily Mirror newspaper photographed her allegedly sniffing cocaine in a London music studio.

Kate Moss joins national portrait gallery collection : Acclaimed fashion photographer Corinne Day has produced a new series of portraits of Kate Moss for the National Portrait Gallery. The nine black and white images are all shot in close up in the style of a single frame, capturing both the beauty of the model, as well has her character. Each image is subtly different and reflects a conversation between the sitter and photographer. Day, known for establishing long term relationships with her subjects, has been photographing Moss for over 15 years. In 1984, Kate Moss was discovered by Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm model agency, at JFK airport at the age of just 14. In 1992, she became the Face of Calvin Klein.

This British dupermodel’s career has ricocheted from one controversy to another, yet Kate Moss has come out of each scandal better than when she went into it, putting her face on over 300 magazine covers. Discovered at 14 while waiting at New York's JFK airport on her way home from a vacation in the Bahamas, Moss first posed for the cover of British magazine The Face at age 15. When she posed nude for Calvin Klein’s Obsession in 1993, she drew lots of attention - and criticism - for her ultra-thin waif look, which many chalked up to an eating disorder. In September 2005, she made headlines when photos of her doing lines of cocaine ran on the cover of, ironically enough, The Daily Mirror; although several companies quickly canceled contracts with her, within months she had more lucrative work than she had before the scandal.

After a series of shoots for teenage magazines, it was Harper’s Bazaar that finally launched her into the international arena. In 1992, she became the Face of Calvin Klein.
