In 2004, Kahne burst on to the national scene when he took over the #9 car after the very popular driver Bill Elliott went into semi-retirement. The season was most notable for the fact that Kahne nearly won several races, finishing second five times, often in very dramatic fashion. He easily captured Rookie of the Year honors.

During the 2006 NASCAR season Kahne established himself as a contender. He won a series-high six races and started from the Bud Pole six times. He finished the year with 12 top-five and 19 top-10 finishes and earned an eighth-place finish in the driver point standings after qualifying for the Chase for the Cup (?).

Denny Hamlin, the last of 42 drivers to make a qualifying attempt, knocked Kasey Kahne off the pole for Saturday night's Camping World 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at California Speedway. Kyle Busch was third at 179.964, followed by Ryan Newman at 179.659, Jeff Burton at 179.614 and Greg Biffle at 178.971.

Dodge racing boss Mike Accavitti will try to entice Dodge drivers, including Kasey Kahne, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman, at Daytona next month. Should one win the Daytona 500, the driver will get to choose an SRT vehicle, including the V-10 Viper.

Kahne was NASCAR's Rookie of the Year in 2004 after closing out the Cup season 13th in the points standings. In 2006 he won six races and six Budweiser Pole Awards -- more wins and poles than any other driver -- and qualified for the Chase for the Nextel Cup in just his third year in the Cup Series.
