TV/radio/print newsman Irv Kupcinet died of pneumonia at age 91. Mr. Kupcinet was a long time journalist for the Chicago Sun Times and hosted a TV show in Chicago for 27 years. Mr. Kupcinet appeared in small parts in Otto Preminger’s films "Anatomy of a Murder" and "Advise and Consent." Mr. Kupcinet was the father of murdered actress Karyn Kupcinet. Uninformed conspiracy theorists have claimed that Ms. Kupcinet’s murder was related to the assassination of JFK. Claims about Ms. Kupcinet formed the basis of the character played by Sally Kirkland in Oliver Stone’s "JFK."

The romantic relationship between Kupcinet and Prine had dried up slowly for several months. Even from its start in December of 1962, "Karyn was into their thing more than he was," wrote James Ellroy in 1998 after he studied documents from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs' office. Andrew Prine had been wed to the actress Sharon Farrell, a union that had ended in divorce in 1962. As with many relationships among Los Angeles actors, there was an element of show with Prine and Kupcinet. The couple was photographed with her father Irv during a visit he made to Los Angeles. In the picture, all three are dressed up on the night of a movie premiere.

Roberta Lynn Kupcinet was born in Chicago, Illinois to Irv Kupcinet, a sportswriter for the Chicago Daily Times, and his wife, Esther "Essee" Solomon Kupcinet. She acquired the nickname "Cookie" during her childhood. She made her acting debut at age 13 in the Chicago production of Anniversary Waltz and would go on to attend Pine Manor College at Wellesley for a semester, eventually studying at the Actor's Studio in New York.[2]
Karyn was last seen alive on the preceding Wednesday night: Thanksgiving Eve. She had talked to her father, Chicago columnist Irv Kupcinet, on the phone, and then gone to have dinner with two friends, actor Mark Goddard and his wife Marcia. She returned to her apartment, and was visited by two other friends, actor Robert Hathaway and free lance writer Edwin Stephen Rubin.(5) The three watched TV for a while, and Karyn got sleepy and went to bed. Hathaway and Rubin let themselves out at about 11:00 p.m. after the Danny Kaye show. They were the last people, aside from the murderer, to see her alive.
The next examined mystery death is that of Karyn Kupcinet, the 23-year old daughter of Chicago newspaper columnist Irv Kupcinet. Karyn Kupcinet's story has been mentioned before by other writers, so it would be nice if there were something new here. But aside from listing some of the victim's acting credits--appearances on The Red Skelton Show and Surfside 6, to name two--there isn't. After relating her dramatic aspirations and the circumstances of her death, the authors write:

Some researchers claimed that there was a link between the death of Kupcinet and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It was argued that the conspirators were trying to frighten off her father and journalist, Irv Kupcinet from telling what he knew.
