Peat deposits cover an area of more than 1000 km2, or more than 7% of Kaliningrad Region. The thickness of the deposits ranges from 3-5 m up to 12 m, and reserves are estimated at more than 3 billion m3. Peat is used mainly in agriculture as an organic fertilizer. There is but one navigational danger about the Kaliningrad lagoon. That is the shipwrecked sunk vessel that is located to the west of the Kurgannyi promontory. The place is not marked anyhow. The approximate coordinates are 54 39, 35 N; 20 17,75 E.

[F]ar, technical assistance for border crossings amounts to 11m€ for infrastructure in Kaliningrad. Further funding is envisaged for the coming years. Four border crossings are considered especially critical: Bagrationovsk, Chernychevsky, Mamonovo II, and Sovetsk.
