To summarise, Kabbalah is a mystical and magical tradition which originated nearly two thousand years ago and has been practiced continuously during that time. It has been practiced by Jew and non- Jew alike for about five hundred years. On the Jewish side it has been an integral and influential part of Judaism. On the Hermetic side it has created a rich mystical and magical tradition with its own validity, a tradition which has survived despite the prejudice generated through existing within a strongly Christian culture.
Kabbalah (... Qabbala, Cabala, cabbala, cabbalah, kabala, kabalah, kabbala) is a religious philosophical system claiming an insight into divine nature. Kabbalah (קבלה) is a Hebrew word which means that which is received, tradition.

Kabbalah means to receive and in these energizing and strengthening workouts, users are challenged to resist the negative and focus on becoming one with spirit and body. In the second half of the thirteenth century the "ecstatic" or "prophetic" Kabbalah appeared which emphasized a visionary and experiential aspect relying on novel approaches to the Hebrew alphabet and numbers as sources of the divine truth. These conceptions were mainly those of Rabbi Abraham Abulafia, a lonely mystic wanderer, and represent the mystic tendencies among the Kabbalists instead of theosophical and traditional speculations.

Given the lack of a dogmatic tradition in Kabbalah it is not clear that the question about the legitimacy of Hermetic Kabbalah is meaningful. Even within Judaism it is unclear what the authentic spirit or tradition is - there are large differences in outlook between someone like Abraham Abulafia and Isaac Luria.
Kabbalah is considered by many Orthodox Jews to be part of the study of Torah, specifically the study of the inner meaning of Torah. Torah study is traditionally divided into four levels:
