A heart-wrenching tearjerker, Kramer vs. Kramer tells the story of Joanna Kramer (Meryl Streep, AA), who leaves her husband, Ted (Dustin Hoffman, AA), and young son, Billy (Justin Henry, AAN), in order to find herself. After the divorce Joanna returns and a bitter court battle for custody of Billy ensues. Despite the simplicity of the plot, the high level of acting, direction, and cinematography elevated this film above the level of familiar melodrama. The movie won five of its nine Academy Award nominations* and beat out a strong list of nominees for best picture.

Little Justin was the hoot of awards season once the derby started. When he lost the Golden Globe for best newcomer to "The Champ" star Ricky Schroder, he burst into tears at the ceremony and "just went crazy and threw a royal fit," reported the Philadelphia Journal. The audience howled with laughter.

Justin does what he wants now. This morning he decides to sleep in. Last night was stressful, so he says to himself he needs the rest. His mother no longer calls, "Justin, get up! It's time for school." She has learned now to mind her own business, and lets Justin come and go whenever he pleases. Maybe she was out late last night with her new boy friend, so, she is sleeping, too. It wasn't always like this.
