Jurassic Park is without question a special-effects feature, but even so, it has the added benefit of a good story and a solid cast. Sam Neill and Laura Dern, as archeologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, are unlikely action heroes, and that's probably why they work in the roles so well. Jeff Goldblum inserts a bit of sardonic wit as chaos theorist and ladies' man Ian Malcolm, and Richard Attenborough is very convincing as John Hammond, the moneybags behind the park who's driven, not by greed, but ambition.

In the book Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton he describes the John Hammond rich dinosaur fanatic. Hammond has bought his own island in Costa Rica along with high tech computers, biologist, technicians, genetic engineers, and construction workers but no one knows why? So John Hammond invites Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Dr. Ellie Sattler, Donald Gennaro, and his two grandchildren Tim and Lex Murphy for a visit to the new park. The visit to the park is no vacation on an island paradise it may seem that way in the beginning but looks can be deceiving. It all starts off well as being a regular tour of Jurassic park but they soon find out that its no mere amusement park with animals but live dinosaurs. Then like every amusement park it has its problems but these problems are dangerous and life threatening.

In the midst of this the chief programmer of Jurassic Park's controlling software, Dennis Nedry, attempts some corporate espionage for Lewis Dodgson, a geneticist and agent of InGen's infamous archrival, Biosyn. By activating a back door he wrote into the system, Nedry manages to quickly steal 15 frozen embryos from the laboratories without being detected by the island's security systems. He then attempts to smuggle them out to a contact waiting at the auxiliary dock deep in the park (use of the main dock would be noticed). But his plan goes awry: during a sudden tropical storm Nedry becomes lost inside the park and stops his stolen jeep at a dead end. He gets off the jeep to figure his location. He is then spat upon and blinded by a venomous Dilophosaurus before being eaten.

The world is about to change, as Jurassic Park is ready to open its gates. Before that can happen, the investors of the park need reassurance from experts of dinosaurs. Drs. Grant and Sattler, along with Ian Malcom, find out that perhaps playing God and resurrecting the extinct dinosaurs is not such a great idea when they must fight to save their own lives as well as others in hopes of getting off of the island alive.
