Julia Bishop is pro Work choices. She had 3.6 billion dollars worth of funding that she was going to withhold from the states unless they introduced performance based pay for teachers. She ... wanted every teacher on an AWA by 2010. Teachers already on AWAs are worse off and can be instantly dismissed.

Some of Bishop's comments, such as "the states have ideologically hijacked school syllabi and are wasting $180 million in unnecessary duplication" have been criticised by teachers. An advance media kit for a recent speech claimed parts of the present curriculum came "straight from Chairman Mao"... the reference was dropped from her speech.[6][7][8]
