Inhabiting her characters rather than simply Being A Star, she's become the equal of such recent luminaries as Michelle Pfeiffer, Jessica Lange and, yes, even Meryl Streep. Outside of her home nation, particularly in Europe, she's held in an esteem seldom granted to Hollywood stars, being seen as a true artist and thespian, rather than just a screen actress. Her directors agree. Andre Gregory said she possessed "the sensuality and urgency of a young Joan Crawford, but with more depth, more contradictions", while Louis Malle said she reminded him of Jeanne Moreau. Julianne Moore was born Julie Anne Smith in Fort Brag, Fayetteville, N.C. on December 30th, 1960. Her mother was a psychiatric social worker and her father a military judge. Needless to say being an army brat Julianne moved almost constantly, almost 23 times before she settled. It was at the Boston University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

She got critical appraisal for her part in the film Short Cuts. Later she was cast is many Hollywood films under big banners. For example she was cast in t romantic comedy Nine Month in the year 1995. Two years later she was cast in the blockbuster film The Lost World: Jurassic park where she played the role of Dr. Sarah Harding. She appeared in Boogie Nights and her role in the film brought her critical recognition as well as getting an Oscar nomination for the Best Supporting Actress nomination.
