Born and raised LaRon James, young Juelz Santana began his journey like many Harlem teens: the new kid on the block. Talking nonsense, smirking to the girls, clowning the guys. "I was hanging in the streets, hustling, doing everything I wasn't supposed to be doing," explains Juelz. "But I knew I wanted to change my life and could do it with music." Laron James may have been the average Harlem teenager, but Juelz Santana was nice. Style for days, the sound of young Harlem incarnate.

Born LaRon James in Harlem, the energetic Juelz Santana cut his teeth as an MC with the duo Draft Pick. He didn't hit the big time until 2000, when Cam'ron granted him a guest spot on S.D.E.'s "Double Up." Santana became a member of Cam'ron's Diplomats, contributed a number of verses on other MCs' tracks, and made his full-length debut with 2003's From Me to U. "Dipset (Santana's Town)," easily the best track off the release, barely dented the charts but deserved a lot better. Prior to releasing his follow-up, he remained active with the Diplomats' popular mixtapes. What the Game's Been Missing!, released in November 2005, eventually reached the Top Ten of the Billboard album chart. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Juelz Santana was born in Harlem, New York to parents of African American and Dominican descent. [1] He began writing rhymes at the age of twelve and was originally signed to Priority Records as one half of the duo called Draft Pick. The group had several shows around New York City while together, including Amateur Night at the Apollo Theatre, where they won two weeks in a row. Some time after this, he was introduced to Cam'ron through a cousin. He impressed Cam'ron with his unique delivery and command of his freestyles and Cam'ron, a seasoned artist, recognized star potential in the teenage Santana. His first rapping appearance can be heard on Cam'ron's remix of "What Means The World To You", which features artists such as Ludacris, Pimp C, Bun B, and Trina.
