On Thursday, Rankin came to the TOUR Golf Academy to help a group of breast cancer survivors like herself get started in the game. She and two-time PGA TOUR champion Len Mattiace spoke to the group of 14 who make up the inaugural "Pink Links" class at the state-of-the-art teaching facility based at the TPC Sawgrass.

Respect and affection for Rankin is immense in the golf community. She served as an LPGA board member and, in 1976-77, Tour president. She was given the Patty Berg Award by the LPGA, the Bob Jones Award by the USGA, and the First Lady of Golf Award by the PGA of America.

Rankin won the Missouri Amateur at fourteen in 1959, the youngest champion ever. The following year she was the lowest scoring amateur in the U. S. Open, and in 1961 she won the Missouri Amateur again. Rankin joined the LPGA tour in 1962 but didn't win a tournament until 1968.

Among the other honorees were LPGA Hall of Famer and current golf announcer Judy Rankin. The 26-time LPGA Tour winner won the Ben Hogan Award, which goes to the individual who has continued to be active in golf despite a physical handicap or serious illness. Rankin has recovered from breast cancer and is back working and even playing golf.

Rankin was LPGA Player of the Year twice and won the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average three times. Rankin became the first player voted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame in 2000 under the veterans category, and she was ... inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000.
