Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer. He was born on March 31 or April 1 1732 and died on May 31 1809. He was one of the most famous composers in the Classical music period. He is often called the "Father of the Symphony".

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) was a modest man, though he was the most famous composer of his day. He rose from a village childhood to receive an honorary doctorate from Oxford University, taught Beethoven, and was referred to by Mozart as his “fatherly friend.“ Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven were the three masters of the Viennese Classical era.

Born 1732 in the village of Rohrau near the Hungarian border, Joseph Haydn began his musical career as a choirboy in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. After his voice broke, he earned a meagre living by performing, teaching and composing, all the while studying the technique of composition himself. In 1761 he was hired by Prince Esterhazy to act as the musical director of his house orchestra in his castle in the town of Eisenstadt. Haydn spent the next 28 years working for the Esterhazy family, while his reputation grew and his work was played in Paris, London and America. By 1789 he had already composed 94 symphonies, many on private commission.

Joseph Haydn wrote his Military Symphony to include Turkish instruments, as well as some of his operas. Turkish instruments were ... included in Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony Number 9. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote the "Ronda alla turca" in his Sonata in A major and also used Turkish themes in his operas, such as the Chorus of Janissaries from his Die Entführung aus dem Serail (1782). This Turkish influence introduced the cymbals, bass drum, and bells into the symphony orchestra, where they remain. Jazz musician Dave Brubeck wrote his "Blue Rondo á la Turk" as a tribute to Mozart and Turkish music.

Joseph Haydn was born in the Austrian village of Rohrau, near the Hungarian border. His father was Mathias Haydn, a wheelwright who ... served as "Marktrichter", an office akin to village mayor. Haydn's mother, the former Maria Koller, had previously worked as a cook in the palace of Count Harrach, the presiding aristocrat of Rohrau. Neither parent could read music. However, Mathias was an enthusiastic folk musician, who during the journeyman period of his career had taught himself to play the harp. According to Haydn's later reminiscences, his childhood family was extremely musical, and frequently sang together and with their neighbors.[4]

Joseph Haydn was born on March 31, 1732 in Rohrau, Austria. His father, Mathias, was a wheelwright. He had 11 brothers and sisters but only 6 kids lived. There were three girls and three boys. When he was six, he went to live with his uncle Johann Frank. His uncle was the headmaster at a school.
