Dutch former F1 driver Jos Verstappen has ceased his negotiations with Champ Car teams, believed to be Forsythe Racing and Minardi Team USA (Competition, Jan. 1). Verstappen, who remains popular in the Netherlands, was attracted to Champ Car in part because the series will visit the Assen circuit in Holland this season. “It’s very hard to find a seat if you want to be paid for your work. There’s interest from a couple of teams, but nobody is making a deal. . . . It’s a pity, because Assen would have been sold out in no time,” Verstappen said, referring to his own popularity.

On 27 September 2006 Jos Verstappen split with A1 Team Netherlands after failing to secure payment guarantees. This resulted from Verstappen only being paid for the 2005/06 season a few weeks before the next season started. He was replaced by Jeroen Bleekemolen for the first race of the 2006/07 season at the team's home race at Zandvoort.

Verstappen est sans volant en 1998 lorsqu'il est contacté par Stewart. Il remplace alors Jan Magnussen à partir du GP de France au volant de la SF-02. Mais Jos ne s'entend pas avec Jackie Stewart et quitte l'équipe à la fin de la saison après 7 GP sans avoir inscrit de point.

Mit Hilfe der Sponsoren Philips und Marlboro, sowie dank Huub Rothengatter, ergattert Verstappen 1992 einen Platz in der Formel Opel Lotus. Jos' Endziel ist die Formel 1, möchte aber erst zwei Jahre in der Formel Opel Lotus, zwei Jahre in der Formel 3, sowie ein Jahr in der Formel 3000 antreten. Verstappen beendet die Saison als Siebter und erzielt zwei Siege. Zusammen mit Martijn Koene gewinnt Jos dafür den Nationencup.
