Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods played together May 2nd in an organized golf event for the first time at the PGA Tour's Wachovia Championship pro-am. Woods and Jordan are good friends and have played golf together before recreationally. Thousands of spectators gathered to watch the two play. Skipper Beck, CEO of Beck Imports of the Carolinas, was the third player on the team. They finished 11-under par in the stroke-play competition. "These two gentlemen are two of the most well-known athletes in the world, and to have them both here for one day playing in the same group is a special treat," tournament director Kym Hougham said.

Michael Jordan credits the invention and use of the carbon fiber shank plate in his shoes for prolonging his basketball career and helping him avoid any serious injuries. The Air Jordan XI (the one with the shiny patent leather) was the first Air Jordan shoe to have a carbon fiber shank plate. The carbon fiber shank plate took pressure off his knees and arches, which is why MJ insists on having some form of shank plate in his shoes even to this day.

Michael Jordan was born to James R. Jordan, Sr. and Deborah Jordan in Brooklyn, New York. His family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when he was a toddler.[2][3] Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, where he anchored his athletic career by playing baseball, football, and basketball. He tried out for the varsity basketball team during his sophomore year, but at 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m), he was deemed too short to play at that level and was cut from the team. The following summer... he grew four inches (10 cm)[1] and trained rigorously. Upon earning a spot on the varsity roster, Jordan averaged about 25 points per game over his final two seasons of high school play. As a senior, he was selected to the McDonald's All-American Team[4] after averaging a triple-double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 10.1 assists.[5] [6] In 1981, Jordan earned a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina, where he majored in cultural geography.

The Air Jordan XIII's, from 1997/1998, are some of Michael Jordan's favorite shoes. They have very good cushioning along with breathability. This was the same time MJ announced his retirement from the NBA for the second time. They were designed again by Hatfield. Also they were re-released in 2005 at about the same time the XX came out.
