Further details about the album came from Jonathan Demme, the film maker who produced the recently released documentary Heart of Gold about the singer-songwriter. “Neil just finished writing and recording - with no warning - a new album called Living With War,” he told the music magazine Harp by e-mail. “It all happened in three days … It is a brilliant electric assault, accompanied by a 100-voice choir, on Bush and the war in Iraq … Truly mind blowing. Will be in stores soon.”

Demme ... deserves commendation for style. He finds a new way to add scene titles in the film so they blend with the frame. It is so simple that some may find it trivial, but it is an ingenious way of giving the film fluidity. A montage at the end, capturing all the people and places Carter has left a mark on in his life, comes at just the right moment. It is a fitting tribute to a man who wasn't afraid to be controversial, and some might say he was a greater man for it.

Jonathan Demme's new documentary, Man From Plains, about former President Jimmy Carter had its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 7th, 2007. The film received a two minute standing ovation and will next be presented at the Toronto Film Festival with the Carters in attendance on Monday, September 10th.
