Jon Bon Jovi got his start in the music business doing odd jobs at his cousin Tony Bongiovi's famous Power Station Studio. One of the demos he cut there became a local hit thanks to a New Jersey radio station, which led to his band's signing with Polygram in 1983. The band hit its stride with their third album, Slippery When Wet, and continued that success with the similar sounding New Jersey. In 1990, Jon composed the music for the Young Guns II soundtrack (in which he ... had a cameo), which included "Blaze of Glory," his first No. 1 solo hit.

Founding member Jon Bon Jovi began to play piano and guitar at thirteen with his first band, called Raze. He was enrolled in an all-boys Catholic school, St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, but left to attend public school at Sayreville War Memorial High School.[3] At sixteen, Bon Jovi met David Bryan (born David Bryan Rashbaum) and formed a 12-piece cover band named Atlantic City Expressway after the New Jersey highway. They played at New Jersey clubs, even though they were minors. Still in his teens, Bon Jovi played in the band John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, playing local clubs like "The Fast Lane" and opening for known acts in the area.

Jon Bon Jovi spent the years from 1983 to 1988 establishing his hard rock band Bon Jovi as one of the most popular in the Western world with multi-platinum albums such as Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. He then put the band on hold and made a solo album, Blaze of Glory (July, 1990), whose songs were inspired by the motion picture Young Guns II. The highly photogenic lead singer of rock band Bon Jovi established himself as a respected actor and solo artist in the late 90s. For a period from the late 80s to the mid-90s, Bon Jovi was one of the biggest-selling acts in the world, thanks to the multi-platinum success of Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. The singer actually began his recording career way back in 1980, recording several tracks as John Bongiovi at his cousin Tony's Power Station recording studio (this material was eventually released in 1997 as The Power Station Years). Fame and fortune soon followed with Bon Jovi the band, before the singer took time out in 1990 to record the solo Blaze Of Glory. This quasi-soundtrack collection was inspired by the movie Young Guns II, in which Bon Jovi ... made a brief appearance. The singer's Western-themed songs failed to stretch a stellar cast of backing musicians including Elton John and Jeff Beck, but the album was a commercial success and the title track reached the top of the US singles chart.
