Johnny Unitas: Plays
built 208 days ago
Johnny Unitas is a darling puppy. This calm and husky little guy is very friendly with a happy, waggy tail. Johnny is comfortable with humans and he responds well to attention and petting. Johnny has some growing to do and he is looking for lots of room to run and play and to just have some good old doggie fun.
The gravesite of Johnny Unitas, Timonium, Maryland. A statue of Johnny Unitas sits in the north end zone of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium at the University of Louisville. It is tradition for each Cardinal player to touch the statue as he enters the field.
An overlooked and relatively undervalued card from early in Unitas's career is Fleer's 1961 issue, featuring NFL and AFL players. In fact, the one and only PSA 10 of any of his regular issues is a copy of his 1961 Fleer card, and only four others graded as high as PSA 9. Unitas's earliest issues are as tough as the man himself in locating high grade copies.

Two plays later, inside the 10, Unitas passed to Jim Mutscheller down to the one. Asked about the risk of an interception, Unitas said, "If I saw a danger of that, I would have thrown the ball out of bounds. When you know what you're doing, you're not intercepted."

Diamond International Galleries was privileged to play host to Mr. Unitas on several different occasions, including the 40th reunion of the 1958 championship team. He had a ready smile, a gentle demeanor, and he was as gracious as you've been lead to believe.
