built 629 days ago
In 1991, the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) launched a successful affiliation with Saint John’s Health Center and opened in Santa Monica, California. Combined with the exceptional quality of Saint John’s medical staff and hospital, a unique cancer institute was created, outstanding in the areas of translational research, and the treatment of solid tumors including surgical oncology, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation.

The 54 patients in the study were treated and evaluated at the John Wayne Cancer Institute between July 1, 1985 and January 13, 1997. Each patient in the study received CancerVax in a series of injections administered over a five-year period. The clinical response to treatment was assessed objectively by measuring changes in the size of melanoma lesions. Of the nine responding patients, two had more than a 50 percent decrease in lesion size for one to three months; the remaining seven patients had a 100 percent decrease in lesion size for one month to more than 114 months.

The toll was not only among the stars of "The Conqueror." Wayne's sons, Michael and Patrick ... developed health problems that may be related to the tests. Patrick had a benign tumor removed and Michael suffered, but recovered from skin cancer. Both were instrumental in setting up the John Wayne Cancer Institute. On April 5, 2003, Michael Wayne died following a operation. He had the disease Lupus. "The Conqueror" death toll keeps mounting.
