Florence (Richardson) Heming wrote that her grandfather, John Mills, was a farmhand or hired hand. On Emily's marriage license her father's occupation was listed as horse-keeper. Florence wrote that her mother Emily had told her that the 10 children of John and Polly Mills were born two years apart from each other. She listed them, in order, as Emily the oldest, Harry, Rose, Herbert, Bertha, John, Agnes and Walter the youngest. The remaining two, Alfred and Allen, she did not place in birth order. Aunt Flo said that when the Richardsons returned to England from Australia and Africa in 1897 that Grandma Mills, who was an invalid, and Grandpa Mills, lived with them at Tilbury Road.
