Mayer (center), with Frusciante (right) and Trucks (left), on the cover of Rolling Stone 1020 Mayer began his career performing mainly acoustic rock and pop, but gradually began a transition towards the blues genre in 2005 by collaborating with renowned blues artists such as B. B. King and forming the John Mayer Trio. The blues influence can be heard on his album Continuum, released in September 2006. Mayer won Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change" at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007.
"The John Mayer Trio has picked a two-night Chicago stand as the source for its first album, a live disc due Nov. 22 via Aware/Columbia. Originally expected out in December, the set will be recorded Sept. 21-22 at the House of Blues in the Windy City.

Named as one of the "New Guitar Gods," by Rolling Stone, Mayer has made quite a career for himself. He found major label success in 2001 with his album Room for Squares and one of his hit singles "Your Body Is a Wonderland," won him a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal. In 2003, he released Heavier Things and won two more Grammy awards (Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal) for his song "Daughters." In 2005, John linked up with two fellow blues artists, calling themselves the John Mayer Trio. The group released an album and toured with The Rolling Stones in October of 2005. The singer's latest album, Continuum hit stores in September of 2006 with much success.

Mayer has performed at a number of benefits and telethons for charity throughout his career. In response to the Virginia Tech massacre, Mayer (along with Dave Matthews Band, Phil Vassar, and NaS) performed a free concert at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium on September 6, 2007.[48] On December 8, 2007, Mayer hosted the First Annual Charity Revue. He performed an acoustic set, with the John Mayer Trio followed by a performance with his tour band. The proceeds of this concert will be donated to Toys for Tots, Inner City Arts, and the Los Angeles Mission.[49] This concert is set to be released as a DVD to be directed by Danny Clinch; it has not been announced whether the DVD proceeds will go to charity or not.[50]
While the Trio tour showcased Mayer's blazing fretwork, he says he learned lessons from those shows about restraint. "When I made my first record, there was no trust in space because it was all me, everything was just on those six strings," he says. "With Steve and Pino, it was all about space, using a whole different palette. When your tone is good on the guitar you need, like, four notes. The more concise and right you have it, the less you need around it." One listen to such spare, carefully crafted songs as "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" or "I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)" instantly reveals this new approach.
John Mayer Pictures: John Mayer Needs an Occasional Pick Me Up After touring in the Aware Festival concerts and having his songs included on Aware compilations, in early 2001, Aware released Mayer's internet-only album entitled Room for Squares. During that time, Aware inked a deal with Columbia Records that gave Columbia first pick in signing Aware artists, and so in September of the same year, Columbia remixed and re-released Room for Squares. In 2005, he began a string of collaborations with various blues artists,In the spring of 2005, Mayer formed the John Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, both of whom he had met through previous studio sessions. The trio played a combination of blues and rock music.
