John Mayer Born in Connecticut on October 16th, 1977, John Mayer was always one to do things his way. He discovered the blues at age 13 when he started listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan (who Mayer cites as his biggest influence) and picked up his first guitar. By high school, he was somewhat of an outcast, preferring to practice Jimi Hendrix riffs on his guitar than hang out with friends.

"John Mayer played Jimi Hendrix's ``Axis (Bold as Love)'' as his contribution to the evening. But Mayer's performance soon went from demure to ego on display as he hot-dogged licks and swore as he backed away from the microphone for a guitar solo. The gaffe made it onto the air, despite NBC's five-second delay. " -Boston Herald

John Mayer Tickets John Mayer grew up in Connecticut listening to pop radio until, at age 13, he discovered blues music when a neighbor gave him a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape. Mayer picked up a guitar, and within two years he was performing at local blues bars, stunning audiences with an amazingly mature style of playing. But he soon realized that the world of guitar virtuosity was not for him.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mayer grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut and attended Fairfield High School. Mayer listened to pop music, but it was not until the age of thirteen that his inspiration for playing the guitar began. When a neighbor gave him a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape, Mayer discovered the blues and learned how to play the guitar. After two years of practice, he started playing at blues bars and other venues in the area. While in high school, he was in a band called Villanova Junction with Joe Beleznay, Tim Procaccini, and Rich Wolf.

With the help of local producer and engineer Glenn Matullo, Mayer recorded the independent EP Inside Wants Out. Cook is ... cited as the co-writer of many of the songs from the EP, most notably, Mayer's first commercial single release, "No Such Thing".[14] The EP includes only eight songs, all with Mayer on lead vocals and guitars, with the exception of “Comfortable” in which Mayer only recorded the vocals. For the opening track, “Back To You”, a full band was enlisted, including the EP’s co-producer David "DeLa" LaBruyere on bass guitars.[15] Mayer and LaBruyere then began to tour throughout Georgia and the surrounding states.
