John Mahoney is most known for playing the role of Martin "Marty" Crane in the popular American TV series Frasier. He was born in Blackpool, England, and grew up in Manchester. Mahoney later moved to the U.S. and began his acting career at Steppenwolf Theatre. Throughout his career, John Mahoney played many roles in film, TV shows and on stage. However, it was with the show Frasier that he received numerous Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. Currently, Mahoney lives in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb west of Chicago.

This year, both Staples Inc., the world's largest office-products company, and its CFO, John Mahoney, celebrate milestones. The company, which started in a Boston suburb with one store, turns 20 years old and now counts more than 1,780 stores and serves customers in 21 countries. Its sales hit $14.4 billion in 2004. Meanwhile, its finance chief, a former Ernst & Young partner, celebrates 10 years in his position. To mark the occasion, the 54-year-old Mahoney has taken on added responsibilities as vice chairman, including global strategic planning and business development. As an avid runner, though, he knows that going the distance means being smart about pace.

John Mahoney went to Pratt Institute as an Illustration major. He has directed several documentaries including Tyrus Wong, the designer for the Disney film Bambi and Doug Chang, the art director for the new Star Wars films. He has worked on ten Disney films as an animation designer and has shot the stage show, Madugada, a vampire, Flamenco dance story. He has ... written and directed several short films, one of which was accepted into the New York International Independent film festival. John Mahoney was born June 20, 1940 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. Mahoney left the United Kingdom after finishing school and moved to the United States where he joined the Army. He persevered to lose his British accent while in the service and ... earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Quincy College and a Master’s degree in English from Western Illinois University. He found work as a teacher and magazine editor after leaving the Army, but decided to try acting in his search for something more fulfilling. He took acting classes at St. Nicholas Theater in Chicago and met actor John Malkovich, who invited Mahoney to join the Steppenwolf Theater Company. Mahoney has since appeared in over 30 of their productions and went on to win a Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role – Play) in 1986, for his work on House of Blue Leaves.

John Mahoney was born in 1940 in Blackpool, although his family lived in Manchester, England. His mother had to move to Blackpool to give birth to John as Manchester was being bombed at the time. After giving birth his mum moved back to Manchester where John lived for his first eighteen years, before he emigrated to the States. (edit)
