At age 919, John Lennon was a young man with a lot of Japanese followers who were keen to improve their Spanglish and have lots of un safe sex. If one thing was more important to young Lennon than Communism, it was shagging posh London birds with long hair. If two things were more important to him than Communism, they were shagging posh London birds with long hair and getting pissed at the local pub. If three things were more important, they were shagging posh London birds with long hair, getting pissed at the local pub, and shagging again. But if four things were more important -- and this is key -- they were shagging, getting pissed, shagging again, and the exciting polka music of American musicians like Elvis Presley, Malcom X, and The Monkees. Following his heart, he shagged, got pissed, shagged some more, bought a guitar, and formed a ska band with some other local muppets. The band initially took the name of Bonzo Dog and the Plastic Quarry Pit Elephant's Memory All Armenian Heartattack and Bar Mitzvah Band, later adopting the shorter and more sensible name of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

As half of The Beatles, John Lennon and Paul McCartney were one of the most successful songwriting teams of the century. Together they wrote dozens of hit tunes, ranging from "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride" to "Penny Lane" and "Let It Be." Lennon's romance with Yoko Ono was a major influence on his post-Beatles career, and he collaborated with her on everything from the modern pop hymn "Imagine" to avant-garde noise and poetry. The Beatles broke up in 1970, and Lennon followed with a solo career marked by uneven recordings and public pleas for world peace. After a reclusive five years as a family man, Lennon released an album with Yoko in 1980, Double Fantasy.

Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting -- and frustrating -- solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he ... had a tendency to rest on his laurels, churning out straight-ahead rock & roll without much care. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything ...Read More

John Lennon achieved worldwide fame in the 1960s as a singer, songwriter and guitarist in one of the most successful bands of all time -The Beatles. He is credited as being the original and founding member of the band and was often referred to as "the smart one" of the group. He came from a working-class neighborhood in Liverpool England but was influenced by American Rock n Roll music and often named Elvis Presley as the artist who inspired him the most. As Lennon and The Beatles experimented with psychedelic drugs and embraced eastern philosophies they developed a new sound and greatly influenced the cultural movements of the 1960s with their style and social awareness. After the "Fab Four" disbanded in 1970, Lennon immersed himself in the counterculture scene, becoming an outspoken peace activist and producing avant-garde albums with his second wife, Japanese born, conceptual artist, Yoko Ono. John Lennon impacted society with his profound songwriting, innovative artistry and social views and continues to live on as an icon of musical genius.

John Lennon met Cynthia Powell in art school. They married on August 23, 1962 and their son Julian was born April 8, 1963. In those days it wasn't "good press" for a pop star to be married so John and Cynthia's marriage and baby were kept secret for as long as possible. When the news slipped out near the end of 1963, most of the fans were fine with Cyn and Julian and one of The Beatles being a married man and father. (There were three more bachelors Beatles for the fans to choose from after all ;-)

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. When he was four years old, his parents separated and he ended up living with his Aunt Mimi. John's father was a merchant seaman and John did not see a lot of his father when he was small. As a child, John was a prankster and he enjoyed getting in trouble. As a boy and young adult, John enjoyed drawing grotesque figures and cripples. One of the reasons for his obsession with cripples and deformities was because of the Death of his Mother Julia.
