built 648 days ago
Currently, John Ball Zoo uses adult volunteers to serve as "teachers", "gardeners" or "divers". Education Volunteers provide a variety of services: tours, presentations, zoo ambassadors, discovery carts and more. Horticulture Volunteers help design, develop and maintain the beautiful zoological garden setting. SCUBA Volunteers perform cleaning and other activities within the waters of the Living Shores Aquarium. A Teen Volunteer program, 14-17 years, runs only during the summer.

On 7th June, 1381, Ball was rescued from Maidstone Prison by rebels led by Wat Tyler. After ransacking the Archbishop of Canterbury's palace, the rebels began their march on London. When the rebels arrived at Blackheath it was estimated that there were about 30,000 people in Wat Tyler's army.

THE SUPES either knew or should have known about Ball's history in Portland (no matter what Delbar and Wattenburger may or may not have reported), and they should have simply included a provision in his contract that re-organizations require Supervisorial approval. If, in their typical incompetence, the Supes didn't realize there was a problem until last March when Ball abruptly amalgamated the Health and Human Services Department (without a plan, objectives or concept of just how the departments would merge), then the Supes should have at least required that future re-organizations require Supervisorial approval. By abruptly firing Mr. Ball, the Supes are acting as rashly as they say Ball was. Firing should have been a last resort.

Ball was with Tyler when he carried out negotiations with Richard II at Mile End on 14th June. The following day Tyler was killed by William Walworth and the rebels, after being granted charters signed by the king, agree to leave London.
