John Adams: Work
built 185 days ago
John Adams "was utterly hopeless as a grand designer of narratives, and he knew it. The artifice required to shape a major work of history or philosophy was not in him. But he was a natural contrarian, a born critic, whose fullest energies manifested themselves in the act of doing intellectual isometric exercises against the fixed objects presented by someone else's ideas." At least that's how Joseph Ellis tells it in "Founding Brothers."

John Adams was caught between the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans. They wanted a war and he didn't. Adams worked to continue Washington's policy of neutrality, which became increasingly difficult. He even went so far as to prepare for war but managed to maintain the peace. See how in this article.

John Adams' first recorded work was included on Brian Eno's Obscure Records LP "Ensemble Pieces", 1975. He won a Grammy Award in 1989 in the Best Contemporary Composition category for Nixon in China and in 1998 in the same category for El Dorado.
John M. Barth embodied the success story of the loyal, long-term employee who worked his way to the top of a company. In its 117 years Johnson Controls had only six chief executives; Barth was hand groomed for the job by the well-liked chief who preceded him, James Keyes, who stayed on as chairman for another three years after stepping down as CEO. Barth's challenge would not be to turn his company around; in fact, Johnson Controls was an unequivocal leader in its industry. Rather, Barth needed to find a way to sustain the momentum and success that had already been instilled at the company by his predecessors. Adding a warm, personal approach to the executive role, he both met that challenge and created his own legacy to match those of previous CEOs. By 2004 Johnson Controls had enjoyed its 29th consecutive year of earnings growth while ... advancing its visibility as an involved and responsible corporate citizen.
