In 1978 Satriani moved to Berkeley, California to pursue a music career. Not long after his arrival he resumed teaching. His most notable California students included Kirk Hammett (Metallica), David Bryson (Counting Crows), Kevin Cadogan (Third Eye Blind), Larry LaLonde (Primus, Possessed), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Rick Hunolt (Exodus), Phil Kettner (Lääz Rockit) and Charlie Hunter.
Joe wanted a neck position humbucker that combined the best qualities of the DiMarzio PAF Pro with those of a late '50s Gibson humbucker. Joe described this tone as being "tubular". Through the use of Virtual Vintage technology, clear-sounding low frequencies are blended with warm-sounding mids and high frequencies, which makes the PAF Joe equally good for chords and single notes. It was first used by Joe throughout the 2003 G3 tour. Recommended for all positions, solid, semi-solid and hollowbody electric guitars.Tech Talk: What does "tubular" mean? In this case, it means making low notes "speak" more clearly while giving high notes a rounder voicing.

Joe just spent the week in NYC hanging with his family and checking out his son’s band TAB at the Mercury Lounge. The boys blew the roof off the place and impressed several Sony reps in attendance as well as other record company big wigs. The guys will be playing at TT the Bears Place in beautiful Central Square in Cambridge Massachusetts on Tuesday April 3rd. Be sure to check them out live or visit them at myspace.com/tabtheband.
