Because the leaders stayed out on the first stop, Nemechek was able to use his tire advantage to slice through the field. While most of the crowd watched pole sitter Tony Stewart race out to a huge lead, the 25 car made its way through traffic. At the next caution, Nemechek only had to take gas and came out third.

Nemechek began racing at age 13, but it was in motocross. It was evident... that he had a flair for racing. Nemechek won more than 600 trophies in his six-year motocross career before making the switch to stock cars in 1986.

"I feel so bad for Joe, as he is so worthy of better cars and better equipment than he has had this past racing year," said Nemechek's mother, Martha. "He's excited about this next year in '08."
