built 655 days ago
Nemechek made the jump to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series in 1994. Since 1997, he has collected nine pole awards and numerous front row starting spots lending credence to his claim upon the nickname “Front Row Joe.”

Although he is a proven winner on other circuits, Nemechek has struggled somewhat since moving to Sprint Cup. He was the 1992 Busch Series champion, 1990 Busch Series Rookie of the Year, and 1989 NASCAR All Pro Series champion and Rookie of the Year.

Nemechek won the Busch Series championship in 1992, and made his Cup debut the following year, but he has yet to finish higher than 15th in the standings. He has four career victories in the Cup series.
A couple of hours after the race, NASCAR Busch series spokesman Tim Sullivan announced that inspectors had found "questionable devices" on the shock absorbers of Nemechek's car. Sullivan said the discovery would not affect the outcome of the race, but that further actions could be taken and any such measures would be announced later this week.(Greensboro News & Record Online/Bob Zeller)(4-26-98)
