Joan of Arc (1412-1431): Armies
built 267 days ago
Jeanne d'Arc This modern version of Joan of Arc takes place during the 100 Years' War. For a realistic style, the shooting took place in natural settings in France and in the Czech Republic. A total of 3000 costumes including the armor were specially made for the stars and some 1,500 extras.
The young warrior riding into Orléans In preparation for her journey, Joan cut her hair and donned men’s clothes—partly as a disguise and partly to hide her body from the desiring gaze of her fellow soldiers. Thus armored, she swore herself to virginity for as long as her crusade should last, and dubbed herself “La Poucelle” (The Maiden).

Joan was instrumental in persuading Prince Charles to receive the crown at Rheims, a long and dangerous trip through English held territory. Her army, marching on empty stomachs but loyal to her without question, forced the English back and Charles, Joan at his side, was crowned King of France.

Prince Charles's troops, with Joan at their head strikingly dressed in male armor, continued to rout English and pro-English forces throughout the French countryside. Joan then counseled Charles to advance to the city of Reims to be proclaimed officially as the king of France. Charles took Joan's advice, and was crowned on July 17, 1429, with Joan standing proudly by his side.
