Joan Bennett, She Couldn't  Take It (1935) In addition to the stage, Joan Bennett ... found success in television. For five years Joan had a role on the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows which brought a whole new following of fans who remain loyal to this day.
Joan Geraldine Bennett was born on 27 February 1910, in Palisades, New Jersey. Born into a family of actors dating back to the 18th Century, Joan's parents were busy jobbing actors throughout her childhood, often away on touring theatre engagements. Her first stage appearance was made at the tender age of 4, followed by her first film appearance at the age of 5. The Valley of Decision ... starred her father, with many members of the Bennett family also participating.

Bennett came from a family of actors: Her parents acted on the stage, and her two sisters became screen actresses. Born in 1910 in Palisades, New Jersey, Bennett attended boarding schools in Connecticut and France. Married at age 16, she had a child the following year and then divorced at age 18. She made her stage debut the same year and soon began appearing in movies. In 1929, she landed her first starring role, in the film Bulldog Drummond. She went on to star in many well-known films, including Little Women (1933).

Walter Wanger was the one with whom Joan Bennett got married in 1940. Wanger guided and managed her career with the director Toy Garnett. It was Toy Garnett who groomed the actress’s hair from blonde to brunette and her new image was accepted instantly by the audience to a large extent and she turned to a glamorous actress.
In 2000, Joan began to work in the TCHS ( main campus) high school library. Postgraduate work has never been a stranger to her. She again enrolled in an Educational Media Specialist program at Montclair State University. After completing this program in 2002, she realized that the information highway where she used to travel, no longer existed. This new world of information and technology has become more exciting daily. The public school library media center is the place to be.
from the trailer for Father of the Bride (1950) In 1950, Bennett changed agents. In 1951 Wanger shot and injured Bennett's new MCA agent, Jennings Lang (1915-1996), with whom she had begun an affair. The resulting scandal hurt her career. Wanger's attorney, Jerry Giesler, mounted a "temporary insanity" defense and Wanger served a four-month sentence at the Castaic Honor Farm two hours' drive north of Los Angeles. However, Wanger and Bennett remained married until 1965.
